Behold Your 2007-2008 Execs!April 3rd, 2007 | Posted By: Mike
The elections for the UWO Ski Club executive took place last night and I’m very happy to announce our executive team for the 2007-2008 academic year as the following… President: Matt Hofmann The UWO Ski Club has been steadily growing and improving over the past three years, and I have full confidence that this trend will continue under their watch. I’d also like to extend a special thanks to both Jaimelynn Russell and Raquel Duchen for all of the assistance they provided to the club over the past year, as well as all the members (now friends) who have made my 4 years on the executive an entirely worthwhile and memorable experience. With the 2006/07 ski season coming to a close, it is time for the UWO Ski Club to say goodbye to its graduating members (in particular, President Mike Mitchell), catch up with friends that we haven’t seen since our latest trips (Whiteface, Tremblant), and most importantly, to plan for the 2007/08 ski season. Despite Tremblant’s reputation for being terribly windy and cold, we enjoyed four awesome days of skiing in the sunshine under blue skies. The 2007 Eastern ski season was sure looking like a write-off until mid-January, but a few weeks of snow and snowmaking, plus some beautifully sunny weather made for an awesome trip to Lake Placid, NY. Say what you want about the legitimacy of global warming, but green Januaries are becoming a very disturbing trend for the city of London — a city situated within the Lake Huron snowbelt and which is usually covered by this point of the year. With rain on both Christmas and New Years Eve, it’s hardly surprising to hear that London “enjoyed” its warmest December on record. As such, Boler Mountain has yet to open, and likely won’t for a number of weeks (if at all). The club truly dodged a bullet by cancelling our previously scheduled trip to Blue Mountain, which was set to begin 12 days from now. “Ontario’s Premier Ski Resort” has only a loathsome 1 run open during a traditional peak period in their season, and you know they’re only maintaining that 1 run in order to claim that they’re actually open. It’s a sad thing indeed. Thankfully both Whiteface (27 runs open) and Mont-Tremblant (52 runs open) are faring much better than their Ontario counterparts, and still have many weeks to improve before our arrival.
